VMCLI Residency & Intership Programs

The Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island is proud to offer NYS Department of Education accredited postgraduate training programs in a varied number of specialties. Our programs consist of; 4th year veterinary externships, 12-month rotating internships in veterinary small animal clinical sciences, designed for veterinarians who have graduated recently and 3-year residencies in Internal medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, dentistry and surgery. These are intended for veterinarians who have completed a formal rotating internship and a specialized veterinary internship in the corresponding specialty or its equivalent.

In order to be considered for an internship or residency at our facility, our state examining board requires that your veterinary school be AVMA accredited or that you have passed either the ECFVG or PAVE exams. If this is the case, then your application will be welcomed.

All of these positions are filled on a competitive basis, through the national computer matching program administered by the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians with the exception of our 4th year externships. Fourth year externs are accepted based on availability and academic achievement. All program information will be available to potential applicants through the Veterinary Internship and Residency Match Program VIRMP website. The AAVC will provide a written document of applicant instructions, list of program titles and their respective institutions to individuals who request information about the VIRMP. You may contact the AAVC at 37 West Broad Street, Suite 480, Columbus, OH 43215, phone number (614) 228-6599, Fax number (614) 228-1216.
