Dr. Jennifer Short

Dr. Short graduated from Texas A & M University in May 2007 and was the recipient of the Hubert Schmidt Scholarship. She then went on to complete a one year rotating medical and surgical internship at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston. During her Internship she managed a large caseload of emergency and specialty referral patients and administered several intern seminars on traumatic wound management. Following the completion of her Internship, Dr. Short began a specialized Surgical Internship at the VCA Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center in Connecticut. She assisted in soft tissue, orthopedic and neurological procedures and held primary surgical on-call duty for emergency procedures.

Then in July of 2011, Dr. Short was accepted into a surgical residency program here at the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island under Dr. Margaret Puccio, DACVS. She has been instrumental in initiating and overseeing our Rotating internships surgical training under a cooperative agreement with our local shelter. This program helps provide necessary medical care for homeless animals to aid in finding them forever homes. We are very proud to have Dr. Short as a staff surgeon here at the VMCLI as she is an intricate part of our surgical service and the care we seek to provide our patients and clients alike. She continues to give extensive seminars to both our interns and referring community on topics such as wound management, bandaging & splinting, drain placement, GDV & burn therapies.

Dr. Short provides her patients with the highest level of medical care and believes this is best achieved through a team approach, with emphasis on communication with the family veterinarian and the Veterinary Medical Center Team.
