The Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island is pleased to announce that Georgina Barone, DVM, Diplomate ACVIM (Neurology) will be joining our Neurology Referral Service beginning May 4th, 2009 as a full time staff clinician.

Dr. Barone attended Vassar College where she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology, then received her doctorate from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Barone served as a staff clinician at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in New York City for several years, then completed a veterinary neurology residency at the University of Pennsylvania College of Veterinary Medicine. She is board certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Neurology). Following her residency, she served a one year post-graduate neurosurgical fellowship and has been practicing in the Long Island area for the past 6 years. Dr. Barone has published many scientific articles, book chapters and lectures on a variety of topics including seizure management and advances in MRI technology. She also serves as volunteer medical director for Kindness for Kitties, a local non-profit rescue group and is actively involved in many humanitarian and animal welfare causes.

Dr. Barone will be a strong addition to our team and will work in conjunction with our current surgery department to provide the highest level of medical and surgical care for your clientele and their pets’ neurological needs. The neurology department is available for referrals by appointment during weekdays and Saturdays, and is available for emergencies 24 hours a day.
